Zovirax Cold Sore Cream contains aciclovir, which is an antiviral medicine used to treat a type of herpes infection called cold sores. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is used to treat cold sores caused by the herpes virus, which causes chickenpox and shingles (herpes zoster). Cold sores are small blisters that cover your cold sore with a small amount of cream. When you apply Zovirax Cold Sore Cream, the blisters are small, round, pus-filled blisters that cover your cold sore. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is most effective when applied five times a day at approximately four hourly intervals for four days. Cold sores usually last for around 6 to 8 hours.
Zovirax Cream is only available with a doctor’s prescription.
Zovirax Cream should only be applied to the cold sore blisters. The blisters will burst.
Do not use Zovirax Cream more than four hours after the application of the cream.If you apply cream more than by the blisters, it may not work as well.
Zovirax Cream should be applied to the first blisters, five days after the five-day period. If you apply it four times a day it may take for the blisters to heal completely.
Do not apply Zovirax Cream to the inside of the mouth, eyes, nose, genitals and skin. This may affect how well it works. Wash your hands after the application.Zovirax should only be applied to blisters. Do not cover the blisters with a plaster.

How often do I take suppressive treatment? You take one aciclovir 400mg tablet twice a day.
Thetreatment is continued for six to 12 months. Then you have a break from medication to re-assess recurrence frequency. Suppressive treatment may be restarted if you have further severe outbreaks. Suppressive treatment can reduce the risk of passing HSV on to your partner but it cannot prevent it altogether and so you should always wear a female or male condom during any sexual activity. If you are experiencing recurrent outbreaks of genital herpes you should also consider being tested for HIV as it may be a sign of a weakened immune system due to HIV.Caution: It’s important to maintain adequate hydration while taking either of the treatments for genital herpes.

Stages of the virus
After the itchy, tingly stage, the site of the cold sore gradually develops into a blister or a small group of blisters, surrounded by red and swollen skin.
After a day or so these burst to produce the typical open sore.
Like a sore anywhere on your body, these sores gradually dry up and form a crusty scab, which is usually a yellow-brown colour.
The sore gradually heals.
The scab falls off over a few days and should completely disappear after around 10 days, or faster with the use of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream.
The area may be a bit swollen for few days.
This is a medicine;
• Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist
• Seek advice before using if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding or suffer from allergies
Apply a moderate amount to the affected area twice daily, if Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is applied to the affected area five times a day. Rub in regularly for 5-10 days to produce the desired starting dose of the cream.
If you do not understand the dosage portion, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
